THE SCRAPE - ISSUE 1

Myles Saucedo

May 4th, 2023: Myles Saucedo, having driven all the way from Eugene, OR, sits with me in the rooftop conference room at Scrape Zine headquarters (AKA "Rainezra's House"). He's soft spoken and polite, exuding an aura that can only be described as sincere. He's a self described hip hop artist, with a flair for fusion. His music tastes are diverse, including alt rock, blues, classic rock, and a wide swath of other genres as well. And athough he's already accomplished quite a lot, his music career is just beginning.

At just eighteen years of age, Myles Saucedo has already tackled live performances, recording projects, and has even released a music video for his song Wall of Flower (which is really well produced by the way). "I like to do everything. I like to sing, I like to rap, I like to dance... Just give me the opportunity and I'll try. That's what we kept coming back to. Dreams. Goals. Work ethic.

He displays a maturity beyond his years, and an eagerness to prove himself. Myles is hard at work getting himself on stage and finding his footing in the music world. But don't let his youth or his humble, aspirational attitude fool you. His work speaks for itself. Check out his song "Sunshine' off his 2022 album "Heart of my City" on Spotify, and tell me he doesn't sound like a fully realized artist.

Myles got involved with Local Fest Connects when he met some of our collaborators at a work party planting trees that doubled as a musical showcase, including Rainezra (executive producer of Spring Fest) and the fine folks of Friends of Noise.

When asked about the source of his inspiration, Myles talked with me about his upbringing, and the power of music to make people feel identified with, and how that makes people less alone. "Things I went through in the past, I know there are kids that felt the way that I did, and turned to bad things that I didn't necessarily turn to. Growing up I saw friends, family members doing things that deep down I knew I wasn't supposed to do. So I try to put that in my songs that there is something better out there than what you're in right now."

I wish I was this cool when I was eighteen. Myles Saucedo is undoubtedly going to make waves. "You don't even know. I'm just waiting for the chance." I doubt he'll be waiting long.
