THE SCRAPE - ISSUE 1

Silas1Wolf - By Salo

As I write this I'm sitting in my apartment, listening to Silas1Wolf's most popular song on Spotify, "Notice Thangs". The track is a smokey dream. Silas1Wolf raps with a flow all his own, with rhythms falling in the margins, out of time, loose, and casual. It sounds like a conversation where he's telling you something important. That was exactly what it was like when I sat down with him for an interview at Scrape Zine headquarters.

Discussing his approach to music, Silas1Wolf gives me a run down on his methods and mentality around making music. "I speak to personal experiences, and I try to bring it to life in a visual way for people to actually live through it... Not to be in a way of talking at you, but for the [listener] to actually sit in the driver's seat..."

Hailing from the East Coast, and living as a nomad all over the country. He's been prolific in the Portland music scene, performing more than a dozen shows over the last year. "This is the perfect year for anybody that's really trying to elevate themselves,” Silas said of the post-pandemic era music scene.

Silas1Wolf is all about community. He has participated in ROSY, a youth music program helping kids find their footing in the music world. He's also very involved with other artists. On the topic of community, Silas muses "It's kinda like a spider web. When you fall in with them, you fall in with me." It's no wonder that he's ended up in the Spring Fest 2023 lineup, filled to the brim with collaborative artists that share his passion and drive to make real art.
