THE SCRAPE - ISSUE 1

Left on Tenth

On bass, lan "Long Island" Bailey starts to pour jazzy grooves to a thirsty crowd. Alongside him, Casey "Mr. K" Kerrigan flavors the groove with rhythm guitar funk. Smiles blossom across the packed-house floor. Jared "Big Cat" Clos joins in quenching the spectator thirst, sprinkling the groove with flavors of high-hats and drum beats. As people start to drink the music, dancing becomes inevitable.

The groove continues pouring over the crowd. Mr K swirls in his vocals as Conor Adam's trumpet sweetens up the fills. Everyone on the balcony stands to taste the music, becoming drunk on irresistible vibes. For the final ingredient, the sound of David Kaltenberg's saxophone rains down, completing the tasty dish that is Left On Tenth.

Left On Tenth knows how to ensure audiences have fun at their shows, releasing an array of sounds that you can't help but dance to. Originating from Bozeman, MT, the band formed in 2015 out of a group of friends jamming together on Tenth Street (hence the name). The diverse group of musician friends soon evolved into a blend of genres captivating audiences all evening long.

"So we threw a big release party at the Rialto, a big venue in Bozeman and sold out the show. And that was the release date for Shadow Gator," Casey shares with Scrape Zine. "Shadow Gator was the first song we released on Spotify. We worked pretty hard at it, kind of DIY In our garage studio in Bozeman..." Conor chimes in, "That's a rock'n'roll anthem for sure."

With their latest album release Angel's Breath, Left On Tenth has further expanded their party-starting setlist. "Yeah, since we moved to Portland [in 2020], we wrote all those songs during the pandemic... We all write songs. Casey wrote the song Angel's Breath. I wrote a couple of songs on the album, too, along with our other songwriter lan. Since the switch up from Montana to Portland, the band has faced a whole new set of challenges.

"For music, you know, there's just so many great bands in Portland, but that also kind of makes it difficult to break through these barriers of finding your fan base," Conor confesses, "I would say one unexpected thing that happens is sometimes people reach out to us to do certain events, kind of like Spring Fest 2023. We don't really know too much about it, we show up, and it ends up being like one of the best experiences. We played a show at The Ruins, which is just a beautiful venue. Then one lady that was watching us really liked it, and she reached out to us to play her birthday party there a couple of weeks later."

From gigging birthday parties and weddings, to headlining sold out shows on New Years Eve, Left on Tenth sets the groove on fire to serve and deliver a great time. They will most assuredly put on a hell of a show at Spring Fest 2023. Don't sleep on this one. Dance, eat, drink, and be merry. This is what it's all about.
