Horizun the Alien - By Salo

Strangely enough, Horizun the Alien was born on Earth. Raised right here in Portland, OR, no less. As I talked with him, I kept thinking that for an extraterrestrial artist, he is deeply human. His music is multi-genre, multi-faceted, outrageously unique.

Best of all, Horizun is on a mission. Well, a lot of missions. This guy says some wise stuff. Covering topics of aggressive positive self improvement, critical thought, environmental sustainability, renewable energy, astronomy, science, and technological progress, Horizun's lyrics are doing some heavy lifting. He hopes to use his voice to push the needle, and accelerate humanity's transition to solar power and renewable energy solutions. Wow.

Despite the serious subject matter, his songs are sweeping, poetic, and inherently sexy. Woven throughout the mission-driven songs, Horizun dives into emotional topics like love, sex, and overcoming the major hardships of life, all with the silky smooth vocal delivery of a real-deal artist.

When asked how long he has been performing, Horizun the Alien doesn't have a clear answer. He recounts singing from a very early age, when he followed the example of his mother, herself a vocalist that passed up chances to tour professionally in favor of taking care of their family:

"She pretty much quit her music career for us,” remembers Horizun. "It's a sacrifice. That's a big sacrifice. But she wanted to be there, present for us. It was a sacrifice, and she made it, and that's like, infinite appreciation for that, you know?"

Now all these years later, Horizun has taken the advantages he was given and turned them into a music career of his own, one that by all accounts is going really f*****g well. He's opened for such acts as Lupe Fiasco, Jeremih, and Kid Ink. He's become a fluid and active member of the Portland music scene, and is only gaining speed. I've spoken with several artists that hold him in very high regard (and tell me so unprompted) in just a few days of interviews, and I'm inclined to join the club.

Whatever the genre, Horizun the Alien manages to create an ethereal & spacey sound that truly is "addictive music for the masses." No matter the tempo, it's exciting, high energy, and easy on the ears. Look out for him at Spring Fest 2023 and beyond as one of Portland's most exciting rising stars.
