Eel Sallad - By Salo

Brought together by their love of music and cannabis, it didn't take these coworkers long to start making music and develop a sound all their own. Eel Sallad can be best categorized as Pacific Northwest Americana Rock, with influences ranging from reggae and grunge to classical music.

Their versatile sound can be folksy rock-n-roll, or a dirty, high energy romp when the drum kit and electric instruments come out.

Led by the powerful vocals of dynamic front man Dallas Lee, he is the namesake of the group. Sort of. Eel Sallad is simply "Dallas Lee" spelled backwards. Ain't that a trip? Gotta love a creative name. It's almost a punchline. Having gone by the name Salo over the last year, I can relate to the reversal. (I'll let you guess how I got to that one.) Their contemplative songwriting and passionate instrumentals creates a deep, saucy sound that sometimes drives people towards riotous revelry, and sometimes inspires them to sway softly. It's uncommon for a band to do both, but here they are - a perfect example of artistic breadth and flexibility.

Their most recent Spotify release, "Cotton Mouth", is a blend of Americana sounds, with the trill of a dancing violin hanging above the arrangement. It's a song you can't help but rock out with, as the vocals embody the essence of grunge and heavy rock. It reminds me of Americana darlings Devil Makes Three, while still providing an enjoyable, straight-froward groove. You can find their tunes streaming on all major platforms. I highly recommend you check them out, no matter what your tastes.

Eel Sallad delivers a much needed dose of rock mentality to the already diverse Spring Fest 2023 lineup. You'll know when you hear them. They'll be the ones turning heads with their heavy/soft melodies. Be there or be square.
